Debbie Zappia Seminar

HVRSK Perspective
Debbie has been a long time friend of our club. Her methods have been proven over the years time and time again. Debbie explains HOW to get you and your dog to work as a team, look happy, work efficiently and learn how to be absolutely clear with your dog. Many people have asked us if she has ever trained a Rottweiler - and our answer to that is yes. Actually, a Rottweiler was her first schutzhund dog that she took from 0-SchH3. In all honesty, it doesn’t matter what breed of dog you have...Debbie can read the dog and the handler and figure out how to make the two work together. That’s what it is all about. Each dog/handler team will be $75 for the day. It will be at the show grounds, so anyone showing puppies will be able to be active in both events. Spectators are free of charge. THIS IS AN ALL-BREED SEMINAR.

Training Philosophy
Over 10 years ago, I decided the path I would follow in my pursuit of a happy working German Shepherd Dog and ultimately in my own joy when working with my dogs. I’ve found a training philosophy that works for me. It’s not magic; there are no tricks, no short cuts. The foundation consists of fostering and nurturing a relationship of confidence and trust. Every dog is an individual and the training must be geared to the temperament of that individual. I concentrate on expanding my dogs drives, so that I have tools to work with to reach my final goal. I make myself the center of my dog’s life. I provide the fun and meet his basic needs. I go through the trouble to find out what a dog likes and then I use it to establish and maintain enthusiasm. Next, I shape behaviors through approximation. I set limits early on, and am consistent in my expectations. So many of our dogs are born with magnificent spirits. It is up to us to maintain that spirit throughout a lifetime, and to ensure that our breed continues to be a working animal with an incorruptible character, fearless and self-confident, with structure to compliment the mind.
